Home > Kendogi & Hakama > Washing Instructions for Kendogi & Hakama
By following the washing instructions provided below, you will help to maintain the overall condition and life of the product:
  1. Turn inside out.
  2. Hand wash with cold or warm water.
  3. A small amount of soap or detergent may be used, but please do so sparingly.
  4. Do not use bleach or any detergents with bleach as an ingredient.
  5. Rinse thoroughly by hand until all soap and dirt are removed, and hand squeeze out any excess water.
  6. Hang dry in a dark or shady locations; avoid direct sunlight.
  1. Follow the same instructions provided for washing kendogi above.
  2. When rinsing, do not hand squeeze; instead, hand press out excess water
(For example, this can be done by placing the hakama on the bottom of a bathtub and then pressing firmly).
  3. When drying out in a shady location out of direct sunlight, hang the hakama up by using the loop located inside the back.
These washing methods will help to maintain the quality fabric's suppleness and indigo dye's color strength through many years of use.
